What is Molina Salsa?

Molina Salsa is a tomato-based salsa blended with a mixture of sweet onion, roasted red peppers, minced garlic, habanero peppers and a selection of seasons and spices.

Salsa was first made by the Aztecs in the 14th century. They would crush tomatoes with peppers and spices using a pestle and mortar until they made a sauce, which they used to flavor their food. Molina Salsa is made in this same style– using simple, fresh ingredients and blending them to a smooth, sauce-like consistency.

We love to come up with new recipes using Molina encourage our customers send in their home recipes. Check out a few of them here.

Why the name ‘Molina?’

Molina Salsa is named after Alonso De Molina, the first person to coin the term salsa.

Molina was a Franciscan monk who studied the culture of the Aztecs in the 14th Century. Following his studies he drafted a dictionary that translated the Aztec’s native language, Nahuatl, to Spanish. In this work, Molina became the first person to use the word ‘salsa,’ which is still used by people all over the world today.
